Lion, the King
In our country --- in fact, in the Indian sub-continent, which has shared the cultural symbols for thousands of years --- lion has been the symbol of authority. The elephant may be physically stronger but nobody calls him Jungle ka Raja. The Lion does not grab more than his appetite demands. Nor does his greed instigate him to create wasteful stocks that keep the other animals of the forest hungry. Lion is powerful, dignified and demands obedience. In the Indian subcontinent, the greatest respect you can offer to an individual is to call him a lion. No wonder then that Ranveer Singh playing the role of Hamza Ali Mazari calls Rahman dakait the Shere Baloch, Rahul Gandhi praised his "Babbar Shers" for the striptease during the AI meet, and Israel gave Modi ji the respectful title of the Lion of Asia. The Bhagava Sher meanwhile is loitering in Japan.
A Work of Artificial Intelligence?
I am sure the Reader would have seen the movie Robot in which Rajinikanth acts as a robot working with artificial intelligence. In a certain scene the robot enters a burning building and brings out a young woman trapped in fire. The robot's artificial intelligence does not understand that a woman would prefer to burn in fire than appear naked in the midst of a crowd. Artificial intelligence is yet to learn to distinguish between the appropriate and the inappropriate. NCERT textbooks of the 6th standard seem to have suffered because of this inability of artificial intelligence. Perhaps the person entrusted with the responsibility of preparing the text book asked ChatGPT "What is the worst form of corruption, and ChatGPT would have said "corruption in judiciary". But for such a scenario, no sane person would have thought of vitiating the mind of very young children with doubts about the morality of the final authority defined by the Indian constitution to protect democracy and the rights of the people. The Honourable Supreme Court of India has had to order the immediate withdrawal of the book.
Of late the Ministry of Education seems to have become the Ministry of Embarrassment.
